I’m often asked how I find all the old stuff I continually drag home. Well let me tell you about my day yesterday.
Brenda and I decided to go for a short ride over to Pennsylvania to check out the fall colors. The leaves change quicker there than in Ohio. We where just riding around the back roads without any destination in mind when suddenly and with out warning the rear tire blew out. This was Brenda’s first experience of riding on the back of a bike with me and knowing I had little control over where we where headed since the tire decided to let go on a long downhill sweeping right hand curve. It all ended well though. It always does.
So anyway after adjusting our shorts, the wife says “So now what?” I think she already knew that I didn’t have the slightest idea as to where we we’re. Luckly there was a farm house nearby and I swallowed my pride and knocked on their door to ask where in the hell I was. Talk about meeting some nice people. This elderly gentleman insisted on hooking up his trailer and getting the two of us home. While helping the old gentleman hook up his trailer his wife shouts out the door, “Hey Bill why not show the young man your old bike.” He gave his wife a very stern look, but said O.K. He took me out back to an old chicken coup and there under a tarp is a well preserved 1947 Indian Chief and a bunch of old Triumph parts. Needless to say he and I started drinking a few beers and telling old bike stories while the women stood around shaking their heads at us. I made a new friend yesterday and I’ve got a feeling I’m going to be bringing home my first vintage Indian before the snow flys.
Here are a couple cell phone shots of the first time in seven years my panheads has been on the side of the road. The shot of Brenda is while I was trying to talk her into walking up to the farm house for directions. LOL
