    forum

good morning kevin, and thank you.us midwestern guys are spoiled because we can usually make a few meets a year.but many have made the point that this forum is their only connection to the other members.mainly our overseas members ,and 90 percent of the rest of the membership that never can make the meets. back when the spammers started,we had about 1500 forum members.i suspect that number has grown as news of the forum has leaked out.probably around 2000 non spam members by now.can you imagine if all 10000 members were to join.it would be great, but would definatly take alot of work to keep in line. also a big thanks ,to you guys who stuck it out when this forum was almost left for dead.in the last few months i have watched as it has slowly surged back to life.and looks to be getting better everyday.someday this will undoubtedly be the greatest tool the amca has. thanks cory,i resisted returning as i was sure if i came back someone else would come back as well.but i trust the club to deal with that if it happens.i find it all laughable now ,thus the avatar. lonnie isam jr.

Kevin, I feel better knowing there is some oversight here. I hate that I've been party to politics and speculation here on our forum but I am a concerned member and want the best for the AMCA. This is a club, and as such it is going to be political. I believe a member of this club and a member of society has an obligation to express a thoughtful opinion. An intellegent administrator needs to be here when these opinions go from thoughtful to spiteful. Lonnie expressed everyone's hope for the potential power of this forum. It would be mind blowing to see this forum reach more of our members and the world of experience that's out there.

          Kevin,
Thanks for taking on even more responsibility. I don't know how ya do it.
On another site you can't just sign up and start posting. New members must be screened before posting. I am sure if you talk to Paul Andrews (PA, PAPS)he can give you all the details.

            Gentlemen!

Well, now that some of the dust has settled, I thought I would toss out a couple of thoughts. As motorcyclists, most of us are not the shy and retiring type, and we don't take kindly to a slight. When writing, it's sometimes harder to convey the tone of a message, than it is face to face. That said, its a good idea to review the wording on a post before sending it out there. Don't say something that would p*** you off if someone said it to you. A little courtesy goes along way. Anyway, I think we usually get along pretty good here, but a strong moderator would be a help at times.
            Doug.

To quote an old phrase "spare the rod spoil the child", an active moderator can be a good thing.

One thing this forum could learn from others I visit would be to put a "LOCK" on some of these threads that go on for ever with back and forth bickering.

Hi Kevin.. Thanks for taking the job. It will be a task, I'm sure.
What would you think about maybe... Creating a "Code of Conduct" for members to stay within while using this forum. If a topic strays to far from thoses rules than it would be subject to removal. With a breif explanation as to the reason why.

what works real good is to have a Administrator like you and then moderators 1 or 2 to start so all the work is not on you .The mods would have the power to Delete, move and lock threads as needed. Need to have an area to post that just the Administrator and moderators can post and read that way problems can be discussed if some one is not sure how to handle a problem.
                      And for the spammers
What is need is when some one registers it gos to a registration queue and then a moderators or Administrator has to approve their account first

Kevin all other forums i belong to have a few moderators that "roam" the differant topics, they keep an eye out for trouble and usually snuff it before it goes bad. I would be glad to help any way I can I really enjoy this place!! GOOD LUCK

Unless some control is exercised here I can see some serious litigation looming for the club. Several threads have gone from discussing issues to attacking personalities which is something that will only lead to disaster.

Please someone from the board respond and tell us where the buck stops.

to answer your questions, the original web master was relieved of his duties, he was replaced by someone for a few months. then we had no one to do anything, an outside company was brought in to help. they are not motorcycle people and did not know who was a spammer or what was allowed so they did what they could. when a certain thread got nasty, I came forward to help moniter things. if you click "contact us" it will forward it to me and I will do whatever is necessary. any ideas or help is welcome.

                            picture hosting

is there any way we could get the picture hosting back like it use to be before the big change on the forum? adminguy was able to make it possible to post large pics, without useing a hosting site. that was 2 years ago.i'm sure it can be done now.the forum would be much more interesting.more pictures are always better. lonnie

I am compiling a list now and will add your question to it, then I will call the people working on the site and see about getting some or all of it done. this is a work in progress and like restoring a motorcycle, it takes time

                                The Nature of Forums

Kevin, you've taken on an interesting job! I moderate 4 such motorcycle forums for various owner's clubs, plus the Yerba Buena AMCA chapter, with members from all over the world, and -usually- discussions go along just fine. There are always a few members who press 'send' a little too quickly, while taking and giving offense easily! I seem to temporarily banish a member or two every year, which leads to long chains of emails about 'freedom of speech'; it's always the same, and eventually they promise to be good in order to access the forum again; usually they keep their word.
I've just discovered this forum; don't know how I missed it for so long. Best of luck!
