  • Barber Motorsports Vintage Weekend - Oct 2008

Good Morning All - Hope everyone is doing Great!!! I want to Share and remind everyone about the 4th Annual Barber Motorsports Vintage Motorcycle Weekend. This years event is scheduled for October 17, 18, 19, 2008 - If you haven't attended one of these events, you are really missing a spectacular Weekend. They offer a Vending Swap Meet, AHRMA Racing all weekend, Air show, Antique Motorcycle "People's Choice" Bike Show sponsored by the Confederate Chapter and the GREAT "Race of the Century" This Century Race is for any Non-replica Motorcycles 100 years or older. There will be 2 classes this year. We have a Single Class, and a Twin Class (which also will have a few 4 cylinder motorcycles)

You will remember the 1st Inaugural race in 2005 gained worldwide recognition. That year at Barber, we had 2 bikes entered into the 1st “Race of the Century”. Bruce Linsday’s 1905 Harley Davidson & Calvin Burnett’s 1905 Indian. Bruce won the 1st years Race.

Our 2nd year, brought defending champion, Bruce Linsday back. Calvin Burnett’s 1905 Indian returned, and was ridden by Matt Morgan. Dale Walksler, and Jim Dennie joined the Race and it was a huge success!!

Last year, our 3rd race had 10 Motorcycles entered into the event.
Here is how that Race faired:

    1st - 1907 Curtiss Single - Bruce Linsday - (Rider - Joe Gardella)
    2nd - 1907 FN 4 cylinder - Erik Dunk
    3rd - 1906 Crouch - Jim Dennie
    4th - 1907 Curtiss Single - Frank Westfall - (Rider - Steve Lippoldt)
    5th - 1905 Harley Single - Bruce Linsday
    6th - 1907 Peugeot - Barber Museum -
    7th - 1903 Indian Single - Dale Walksler
8th - 1907 Indian Twin - Vince Martinico - Made it to bottom of turn one
    9th - 1905 Indian Single - Calvin Burnett - (Did not Start)
10th – 1905 FN Barber Museum – (Did not Start)

Vince Martinico Crated and Shipped his 1908 Indian Twin from California just to ride in this event. Electrical issues caused him problems and he didn’t make the Lap. We certainly hope to see this Awesome Bike again!

Well this year’s event is gearing up to Top even last years Race. Great Names like Jerry Ottaway, Lonnie Isam Jr, Dick Chance, Joe Burton, & Dennis McCarthy are joining returning riders Calvin Burnett, Dale Walksler and hopefully Bruce Linsday and Joe Gardella. We are anticipating a Super Day at Barber for the Race of the Century.

There is still time for you to get your bike there. You must hurry! Contact me at davidlloyd44@comcast.net. I can send you an entry form and set you up to ride your 100-year-old machine in this premier event. These Century bikes were made to ride and that is exactly what we are promoting. Hope to see you at Barber for the 4th Annual Vintage Motorcycle Weekend!!

    Please accept this correction

Last years event had 11 bikes entered - I missed #11 entry. Calvin Burnett also entered a 1907 FN 4cylinder. The rear spokes tore loose just before the start and was disabled.
We also hope to see both of Calvin's bikes return this year. He would have a bike entered into each class.

One more note about this event: Then will be a mandatory Tech Inspection beginning Saturday at 8:00 AM on the Start / Finish line. All bikes will be inspected before the event. We also are providing a special “early inspection” Friday afternoon at the AMCA Confederate Chapter Display. Those who would like to per-inspect will have the ability to do so. We will also offer a special area in our Bike Show Display for all Century Bikes.

    Thanks Again,
