Hey Knuck.......doesn't it suck when you can't open a link? Apparently there's a fellow that is going to ride his freshy fixed up '14 Harley and ride it from San Francisco to the Statue of Liberty. Pretty impressive I say!!! I tried to post a pic, but the manage attachments button is workin' for me.

He will have no trouble making it. That era was when Harley made their name for QUALITY. My 13 single speeder will hit 60 mph no problem. Stopping ;however, was and now may be more of an issue. Itinerary will be everything. Did you check out the guy's great shop? Looks like he knows what he's doing.

I gather you checked out the slide show. He's got a great shop. I see the folks from AssCrack Racing are showcased as well. So Barry, does it inspire you to take that beauty of a '13 of yours on tour????

The big drawback besides the lack of brakes is that it is a single speeder. In 14 Harley offered the 2 speed in the rear hub as an option. I don't think this is as fragile as people today say. A gentleman in Holland restored a 14 Harley 2 speeder and hooked up a wicker sidecar and toured Europe with his grandson about 15 years ago trouble free. Kevin Hellowell of England had rebuilt the rear hub, he is a genius with those. The ideal early Harley for an extended trip is a 1915 with the first 3 speed. Of course these feats of endurance are nothing new even in the modern era, just look at Max Bubeck's transcontinetal ride on a 1914 Indian at age 80!! How about somebody redoing the first transcontinental bike ride on an identical Yale Californian ( or was that a Duck?)

In scanning through more pics of this bike I found that the shop belongs to Dave Kafton of California. I'm assuming that he restored the machine. I tried to send him an e-mail to get some insight, but my message was refused by his computer. I guess it must have showed up as spam. Does anybody out there know Dave?
