    April 24, 2008 Lawrence, Kansas

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Kansas Short Grass Motorcycle Club is being reorganized Sunday, May 4th at the downtown Lawrence Public Library located at 707 Vermont Street. The club was originally organized in 1910 and went on to become famous both regionally and nationally. The KSGMC was generally recognized as the premier motorcycle touring club of the early 1900's. The club's annual trips to Wyoming and Colorado were widely reported in the popular press of the era. In keeping with the club's past, the new organization will emphasize touring events and is actively planning monthly daylong tours of NE Kansas and NW Missouri. Riders must be 18 years old to participate. The club is holding their first organizational meeting on May 4th between 3-5 pm in the downtown Lawrence Public Library's main auditorium. There will be free refreshments, guest speakers, a historic slide show, door prize drawings and so much more. All makes and models of motorcycles are welcome and admission is free. The club's first day tour will be May 18, 2008. Be sure to bring a friend and please tell others! For further information contact KSGMC via email: sades@sunflower.com Ride Safe!

This project sounds fun. Happy Jameson got his start and name during the Short Grass Tour of 1913 to Colorado. That was one of the big events of 1913, which, if you count brands, was about the peak of the early industry. Hap was sent by Harley-Davidson to represent that firm, and he was so helpful and cheerful assisting other participants of all brands -- and there were plenty of them -- that they called him Happy (Hap) for the rest of his life. You can bet those old time Short Grassers had plenty of stories to tell about the joys and difficulties of early motorcycling. Them were the days!
