As a club we will be adding new pics and info. We are not trying in anyway to replace the message board at AMCA. We are just a small club promoting a small period of time in the history of motorcycling. We are trying to put together a show or ride or both in the So Cal area. Our goal is to make the period modifieds (bobbers) the focus of the group, not the gee that's nice but it's not a hundred point bike
Seems like all restorers have a guilty pleasure in the form of a bobber in their collection. We just want to give them a place to be in the forefront. After all, it's the modifications done by the people (not the motor company) that has led to some of the major styling and technological advancements in the art of motorcycle building.

I just got a comment left on the blog regarding the wall of death photo with the lion. The rider apparently is Tornado Smith a british thrill seeker. Anyone have any info on him?Comment

I'm very interested in Jurassic's picture of the "wall of death" act with the lion in a car and the rider on the Indian motorcycle. The Indian rider may be Rollie Free who worked in such an act. Jurassic, do you have any information about the picture? Any notes on the back? Where did the picture come from? Etc.Comment

in case you did not know it, the AMCA now gives 3 Period Modified trophies at every national meet. bring them to Dixon and enter them for "display only"(free). show everybody the history of American Motorcycling

I know there are period modified classes at the shows. I even won a second place trophy once at El Camino (mostly honorable mentions though). My point is, and I'm not knocking the judges because I understand how hard their job is, but they don't always know so much about modifieds. I couldn't tell you the correct 3 o'clock vs 12 o'clock positioning of a primary chain inspection cover and frankly I don't really care. I believe in restorations. They are beutiful and I'm glad there are so many doing them to preserve the history. If they weren't restored there would be no reference point for me to know how badly I chop them up I've lost points at shows because my grips were too short. They were period correct CMS red grips, but they were too short (shrinkage in material over the years I guess). Yet no points are taken for the perfectly fitting jackhammer grips on a 41 U. The thing is none of that matters too much. I love the bikes as we all do. I'm just trying to establish a venue for modifieds that allows me to be around the good people of the AMCA and not force me to go to "chopper" shows where I enter my bike in the bobber class and am competing against an Evo powered rigid with a goose neck and black primer and usually loosing. At least I ride my bike to the show. Sorry if I sound like I'm dumping on anyone. It's not my intention. I'm just trying something to give a niche to those who share my passion. Much like the guys that only collect race bikes or hill climbers, etc.

I have a '56 "G" engine in a solo frame, 47-later tanks, 46-earlier tranny, etc ...
