    Rusteco

    Jroberts -

Take a look at the Rusteco webpage
    (address below).

They have been derusting the inside
of our tanks and other parts for years.

The product is non-toxic and can be
sent to you in pints or quarts.

They are also always happy to give
    excellent advice over the phone.

For small parts, I purchased a rotary tumbler from Caswell.

      http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/...y_tumblers.htm

Toss in a bunch of rusty small parts, add ceramic triangles, some water & dishwasher soap and presto - shiny parts!

        jroberts!

I think what you are asking for is feedstore molasses.

I have used white vinagar and a 3M scotchbrite pad. It takes a little elbow grease but things look good.
          Good luck

            jroberts,
When I restored my 51 Servi I used electrolysis to
de-rust many of the parts. Basically the part(s) are suspended
in a bath of water\washing soda between two metal bars and
then a battery-charger is attached, one pole to the part, and
one on the suspended bars. Will migrate all of the rust from
the part to the bars without damaging the part as does
sandblasting or chemical cleaners. You can find serveral articles
that explain the process in detail on the web (google).
For example I cleaned both back wheels this way and not only did
it remove the rust but the paint which had rust underneath. Be
ready to prime or coat the parts as once they come out of the
bath, they will start to rust again immediately.

Links for molasses rust removal (Beta vulgaris is the sugar beet!):

              http://virtualindian.org/projrust.htm#molasses

              Links for electroyltic rust removal:

I haven't the patience for either, when walnut hulls at 110psi will pick off rust without removing Parkerizing.

                molasses rust removal

I'm real interested in the molasses thing, but I can't find anyone in my area selling sugar beet molasses. I called some rural feed stores, and they didn't know what I was talking about. Anyone have any ideas where this stuff can be had??

You're not to far from the Canton-Akron area. Try giving Lemans a call. You will find their phone number here....
http://www.lehmans.com/sdx/H21349.jsp If they do not have it, I bet they can link you to someone who does. They are located in the heart of Amish country. Paps

                    Rust remover

Look in the AMCA magazine in the advertizers index. a product called Rustbeeter. I talked to this guy at Davenport. It seems to be the type of thing you are looking for.
                    Good luck...Rod

                      Paps,

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

                      Rod K,

Yeah, I came across their website, it is probably the same thing, but I'm hoping to find just plain old bulk molasses & save a buck or two.

For heavy rust, use 50% muriatic acid. Rinse with water and then use one of the rust removers already mentioned to get rid of the light rust.
