Hi Jim - the threaded hole off to one side is for the trip odometer reset. I've seen two styles, a short stub where you reach under the speedo and push up and turn the knob to reset, and the more usual - the moral equivalent of a speedo cable that loops 180 degrees and the trip reset knob is mounted beside the speedo face.
