Morning everyone, I have a question for the Indian people. I am wanting to put together a 24 chief 1000cc motor. I don't have the flywheels n rods for that year but do have a 44 chief flywheels n rods, has anyone tried fitting the 44 , 1200cc into a 24 chief 1000cc case . At the moment I have fitted the 44 assembly into the 24 half case with a barrel ontop and can see the rods touch the case's at the outer edges meaning some metal would need to be removed. Also i dummied up a 1000cc piston to the 44 rod which hits the top of the barrel which I knew it would. Special piston size required, at the lowest point of the piston travel I have a bit more than 7mm gap at the baffles to the base of piston, is this to much gap ?? Has anyone tried this before and if so how and what did you do to make it work, cheers Rob

Rob, I've never done what you're trying, but one way or another, I bet it can be done! However, why not look for a 61" crank? Study the parts book and compare with Powerplus. You will note that the early Chief shared quite a few parts with the Powerplus, the 61" motor especially. If the Chief part # prefix is N, then it's the same as Powerplus. I'm pretty sure valves, pistons, maybe rods and more are the same. If you can find 20's up to mid 30's rods, they are the same dimensions as all 74" chief rods, but lighter weight and smaller OD on the big end, may clear the cases that way. Also, try Steve Rinker for a set of wheels and rods: 304-671-0878. He bought all of Kent Thompson's parts and I bet there are 61" wheels in there. Also, contact Tom Kuhn in Ohio. He is the wizard on early 61" Chiefs: 716-531-6666 or email: A42DegreeTwin@aol.com
