  • Where is a good place to stay at 55th Blackhawk Davenport meet?

I will fly in from the left coast and just want a decent place to stay, no bed bugs please. I am willing to drive a little if needed to have a reasonable $ clean place but close is better. Always wanted to go to the big one and decided it's time and not getting any younger. So I read it is a 3 day meet now, I plan to arrive on Wed and leave on Sunday. First hand experience is best.

I have used the Holiday Inn Express that is off 61 for the better part of a decade. A fair number of AMCA members stay there for the meet. It's about a 10 minute drive over to the meet and there are ample restaurants around the hotel if you don't get filled up at the meet.

Oh, and YOU won't get in on Wednesday unless you have Vendor buddy. Vendors are corralled in their own area on Wednesday. The "meet" is Thursday, Friday, and it's pretty much done by Friday night. Yes, the Chief Blackhawk Club is trying to get vendors to change their habits -- but the problem this year is that Black Hills National Road run is just a few days later.

If you want good deals on odd stuff -- then yes, you need to walk around the camping/vendor area on Wednesday evening and be ready to go at 8am on Thursday. If you wait until lunch time on Thursday -- you're gonna be mad. Stuff happens FAST at Davenport. A guy will show up at 10am -- flip open the bed of the truck and in two hours will be packing up having sold everything. It's not like AMCA meets. Folks come to deal from the local area -- they bring out weird stuff and you have to decide on the spot if you want to buy it or the next guy will.

It's also a meet where you tend to do well as a vendor. I've done well selling at buddy's tables and several friends have sold multiple non popular bikes for good money. it's just a good overall meet.
