    A couple of years ago I was able to get ahold of someone at HD willing to talk to me, but all they could give me was the number of machines built in the years I requested. They had no other info to share.

        And if you're lucky enough to get someone willing to dig a little deeper, there are some records (VIN vs Line bore #s) going back into the '60s.
        Doesn't help OP though as nothing at all going back before '58.

        My friend's early '46 still has the 'war' kicker pedal. Those come up on eBay once in a while.

          I think the factory VIN look-up goes back to 1962. Customer Service was able to give me a build date for my 65 about ten years ago. The early 46s look just like 1945s.
