  • Lost IN THE MAIL?!

On 2/27/07 I won a Cleveland fuel tank on E-Bay.Hooray! I'ts in Denmark. The man I bought it from mailed it the next day.To this day I haven't received it.He is trying to track it on his end and I on our end.He sent me a picture of the label with the tracking # on it so it's Proof he sent it.He is doing his best on his end to track it and our post office can't do anything till the # shows in our system. It was sent Econo, which he says is a slower air service. My question is :Has anyone had a similer situation that they have worked thru and found their package? How do I find what air freight system might have handled it? Any IDEAS Welcome.

    Lost parcel

    Rustderby,
I have had loads of parcels going the other way after having won e-bay auctions from the US and Australia.
When shipped economy it might take time, longer than what you have waited for the Cleveland fuel tank so far. As long as there is a tracking number it should be possible for sender to find out if it have left Denmark, and if so you will just have to wait til it reach the US for your postal system to track it. Have you tried some of the tracking services on the net yourself??
Hope you get it soon, I saw the tank on e-bay, looked great.
    Regards
    Sverre

If he sent it economy, then it will take "quite" a while. Being in Holland and sending packages "economy" to the States for a few of my customers....some took as long a 13 weeks!!!!!!!!

        Trying to be Patient.

I also dropped a line to the Sunbeam Forum since they are over there, hoping to get a perspective fron the other side of the Pond and the consensus so far is wait! It's hard to do when you won something today and you wanted it yesterday. You win a part and in your mind you have beaten out the dents and have it painted before the seller has got it to the post office. How slow can planes fly anyway?
        Thanks,Gary

as being a buyer and seller on ebay myself I tend to find for shipping you get what you pay for. little money means longer time the more money you pay the faster the plane is able to fly

You'll get it, if the boat doesn't sink. It is somewhere out on the Atlantic in some ocean going freighter, bound for a dozen or so ports along the way tp you. Such is how economy works. It may never see an airplane during transit. Paps

It seems that others have been in the same" boat".Golly,For a minute I thought I was unique. As one wrote I don't want the money,I want the part!Whenever it gets here!Finding tin in any condition at all is more important than the cost.

I bought most of an old "J" from good people in Australia about 4 years ago. I bought it in early June and finally saw it in a warehouse in late September. The price was excellent but it cost almost 2 grand to get it here. Everybody from here to Australia had their hand out for a fee, I even helped pay for dredging a shipping lane in Los Angeles. We live in a post 9/11 world and I guess everyone thinks old motorcycle parts are bombs. . . . . which they are, but they're only dangerous to us. I know what you mean about pounding out dents on a phantom part. For all of those months I poured through pictures and books trying to vicariously enjoy something I couldn't touch, ( sounds like I'm describing a Playboy magazine). When I finally got the bike it was better than I had hoped for and I've had a ball with it ever since. Good things are worth waiting for.

Well.I just sold a MC to a fellow in New Zealand and the two choices were, boat or fly it,Boat 1000 US(at least a month or more travel time) Fly it 2800 US, he flew it and one week to the day was ridding his new purchase as a few of you said the MORE you PAY the less TIME its away from you ! On the few things Ive bought overseas Ive always inquired about having it sent the fastest way possible and more much extra is it going to be,and 9 out of ten times Ill pay ! GOOD LUCK and please when you do get it let us know.

Before I bid I wrote for a quote on freight just to see how much I could bid without over spending and he gave me a price so I had a guideline. Dummy me ,I didn't ask how it would be shipped.I told my wife this morning that if and when this tank shows up she will take a picture of me hugging it and it will be posted on this site!

Just out of curiosity. Does it cost more to ship something to the U.S. or from the U.S. ? I know there must be a lot of variables in regards to shipping but I have to wonder about the restrictions at U.S. ports and the increased costs of port security. I'll continue buy small things from overseas but I'll never buy another motorcycle from outside of North America.

Depending on what country is shipping to the U.S., most of the time it's a lot more coming in than going out. I just got my FedEx pricing for our new U.S. based warehouse and the prices are much cheaper shipping to Europe than shipping from Europe....as much as 40% depending on country.

In Holland, I have a constant 15% surcharge for fuel and then there's security fees I have to pay if being shipped to the States, then when Europe went to the European Union shipping prices went through the roof and have not stopped. This is one of the driving forces for us to move back to the States because I had to pass all these extras onto the customer.........then add in the crappy exchange rate there were times shipping was more than the parts cost.

In my experience with Canada Post and the USPS, shipping the exact same thing in the exact same box costs between 50% and 100% more to go from Canada to the US than it does to go from the US to Canada. I get dash bases in for repair from the US and it will cost them $6-8 to send it to me. $12-14 to send it back. On several occasions I've taken a small package I've received unopened down to the postal outlet and asked how much to send it back where it came from (and then chew the guy out when it's obscenely more). They just give me a 1-800 number to call if I have a complaint.

It's not uncommon to pay EasyRuss $3.50 to ship some small NOS part I bought on eBay from Grand Rapids. I'd get nothing but a horse laugh for $3.50 from Canada Post. It seems impossible to send anything other than a letter to the US for under $7.

Canada Post money orders - $4.50 for a domestic one and $4.95 for a US one. USPS money orders - 95 cents to $1.30 for a domestic one and $3.45 for an international one.

Obviously this is a hot button item for me. I fail to see why there is such a disparity between the rates to send the exact same thing the exact same distance. I certainly wouldn't base a mail order based company in Canada ... Perry (Canadian prices in Canadian dollars, subtract 15% to convert to US funds)

The last large item I got from Europe took two months to arrive. It was sent air but still took as long as economy. Be patient, it will eventually arrive! Robbie
