Body work needed

Does anyone know someone that is good with knuckle tanks I have one that is pretty beat up and the bodywork is over my head. I think it will need the back cut out and reshaped from the inside.

Thanks for the info but I'd be a little nervous sending my tank all the way to france.

Again........can't help you here in the states but I am sure there are some. As far as shipping to France, send it DHL or UPS insured and it will get there and back just fine. Don't ship one there via USPS. If it does get there, it may take more than 6 months. On another note, That French fella can build you an exact replica also. May be cheaper than fixing yours. Don't know this for sure but it may be worth asking him. Paps

It seems like there ought to be plenty of people to do this for you. My '65 tanks were beat to heck when I got them, but a guy who was a sheet metal specialist where I used to work did them for me, and they have looked great for years now. I am sure you will find members here in the states to help you. This is a busy time of year for this stuff, and my guys aren't taking any new work right now, or I would definitely hook you up. I had mine done by the local radiator repair guy here in town. Pretty cool place, dirt floor and old model A radiators all over the place.
And cheap.

If that is a knuckle tank, based n the dash depression, it must be a '47. Since it is in what we all seem to agree is rough shape, I would consider finding a '48 - '50 tank and relocating the gas line connection inward to the correct position. A good fabricator with a wire welder could do such a job fairly easily - I have seen it done before and on some Senior bikes.
May sound like blasphemy but you've got a ton of work to do on that one.

You are correct about it being a '47. I have thaught about using pan tanks but I don't think I would feel right about cutting them up. I just think about 30 years down the road when someone would say "What IDIOT would cut up a beatiful set of Pan Tanks."
