  • Linkert M6 Carburetor body

I have a nickeled M6 Carburetor body. I know that H-D listed them in their accessory catalog as being for an Indian. Did they come stock on any motorcycle?

    I suspect, Chris,

Those listed for Indians were BECK replacements, usually with an accompanying INDIAN stamping, and a serif'd M.
Most that crossed my benches were three-line '40 and later bodies.

One four-line body without the INDIAN stamping and a serif-less M is shown on the left:

Here is one with a C, perhaps for "commercial", and likely for V models. Maybe.

The bottom line is that the judges must point their stinkfingers at any and all of them. Why else would somebody grind the INDIAN off of this one?

Dear Chris, Jerry Hatfield's New Indian Restoration Guide 1932-53 page 223/4 does not list the M6 as ever used on a stock bike over that period. When the brass Linkerts came out in 1932 there was a long period when you could trade in your old Schebler plus money for a new Linkert, and the M6 would have been one of the replacements for the Indians. The company continued with the Scheblers until 1940 and many Indian riders will have later used replacement Linkerts rather that the fragile pot metal Scheblers.
