According to Maldwyn Jones (racer in the photos with the Buck Rodgers crash helmet), Joe Merkel shunned publicity for himself and was rarely photographed. He does not appear in any of the photos posted. Speaking of Maldwyn Jones, he was quite an amazing gentleman as well.
