Judging Board Rescinds Photo Requirements on New Entries

In the recent (Nov/Dec Vol. 63, No. 6) issue of The Antique Motorcycle, on page 16, an announcement was made of a judging rule change that would require all new judging entries to submit photos at the time of registration. The intent was to improve the quality of judging by ensuring we had judges for that particular year/make/model present, and if not, we could call upon our vast list of Marque Specialists to assist the Event Chief Judge and Chapter Deputy Judge via remote assisted judging.

The reaction to this news from several AMCA members expressed concerns about such a rule. Within days of this news being announced, the AMCA Judging Board assembled to discuss these concerns and suggestions and come up with an alternative solution. Below is the revised statement that will be changed to reflect the sound advice of our members.

New Photo Option for New Judging Entries
After the closing of judging pre-registration of any national event, the Event Chief Judge and Chapter Deputy judge receive a list of the registered motorcycles. Those two individuals decide if the list includes any motorcycles to be judged where there may not be qualified judges at that event. In that case, the Event Chief judge can request photos from the member/owner for review by a person who may be familiar with this brand and model of motorcycle. If the owner refuses, the owner may be advised his/her bike can not be judged.

If a bike shows up that was not pre-registered, as required, it is up to the ECJ decision to accept an entry, providing the bike meets all required elements.

For those who want to provide photos of their new entry, the AMCA will still include the option of photo submissions during the pre-registration process.

The AMCA Judging Board would like to thank those individuals who brought their concerns to the board. Based on the recent collaboration, we encourage members to submit their suggestions to JudgingBoard@AntiqueMotorcycle.org.
