  • FLH Beaded Windshield

Looking at the beaded windshield on my '70 FLH, what color should the beading be? Also, any ideas on polishing the haziness out of sections of the windshield? Can it be done? Thanks in advance - Ted.

The beading was always clear. It usually discolored to a light amber all the way to dark yellow/brown over time. There are many products available to polish plastic which remove scratches. They are all soft polishing compounds which need to be buffed. A power buffer works best but care must be used to prevent overheating the surface of the plastic. It will try to melt and then smear badly. Practice on a junk windshield first! Robbie

Believe it or not, the best thing I have found to polish the plastic windshields is semichrome polish. The same stuff thats for aluminium. It also works great to remove the fine scratches and swirl marks from your paint. Use cotton t-shirts and do it by hand.It takes a lot of elbow grease.

Rousseau and Rub, thanks for the information. Were you able to remove the haziness (must be many, many very small scratches) from windshields with the polishing process that both of you describe? Thanks - Ted
