I can't say I saw that coming, but it doesn't surprise me a bit.

The best I can tell, Folks,..

The Schebler appears to be literally hanging by a thread.

Wired-on, so it wouldn't get lost?

WOW! Values of these old bikes have always amazed me! Auctions bring out the crazy prices, but then sometimes they fall flat.

Ya Gene, Mecum is always wEiRd when it comes to consistency. Some Motorcycles go for unreal amounts, while others that you would think would hit the ceiling are reasonably below current values. Go Figure? Almost all of the Motorcycles i can find way cheaper than that auction, it must have something to do with worldwide coverage with unlimited funds plus status quo bragging museum rights. And then...there is the Passionate Legitimate Motorcycle Enthusiast!
When i have some more time, i will point out many current examples.

yes, i went through each day's auction results (a first for me) and was surprised to see high/low prices for some same-year bikes. i imagine, at least in some cases, there's no explanation for that and in other cases there are, such as "provenance." What percent do these auction houses take on the sale of a bike?

                    Maybe it's the cocktail waitresses.

I was at Mecum and as always some go high and some go low. The auction crowds can be fickle. In general I felt the bidding was softer this year than last. Jerry
