I have a small leak on the bottom of the tank. Don't want to attempt to apply heat for soldier for fear of expanding the leak. what other options are recommended for external or internal sealant?

Red-Kote seems to be the best, Moritz!
But please do not bank upon it sealing a large gap.
After careful prep, an iron will allow solder repair without warpage or damage possible with a flame.
Even if a microleak persists, it will give the sealant far better odds of success.
