  • Aermacchi CAD or Zinc?

I’m working with my grandson on a 1973 Aermacchi TX-125 that he’s claimed. Before we put it back together I wanted to get the nuts and bolts replated. So did Aermacchi CAD plate or Zinc plate their hardware in the 60’s and 70’s?

AFAIK, they were on clear zinc by 1970. I haven’t touched your model, however, and no aermacchi later than ‘71. So take that with a grain.

aermacchi hardware was not terribly good and excessive barrel plating of zinc can cause thread fitment issues, particularly on m6 and m8 fasteners regardless of pitch.

so, try to have no coating when you send parts. I usually douse in muriatic acid for five minutes, rinse, and treat with wd40 before sending stuff for clear zinc. Most places plate zinc thick.
