I think of my father Harold Harrison Ostrander and three of his brothers every June 6th. Dad landed on Omaha beach on D-day 6th and went into Berlin with George Patton. One uncle was a B-24 tail gunner based in the south of England with many missions across the channel. Another uncle was with the Combat Engineers and layed sissor bridges across many rivers on his way to Berlin. They met there. Howard my other uncle served stateside. They were from a family of ten children and have always been my heros. Their father served in WW1. Another brother the Korean war. I served in the Combat Engineers in Southeast Asia and Dad and his brothers were not happy about it. Their service and all the others who served will never be forgotten.DrSprocket

My oldest brother lost his hearing in a tank in Belgium but returned home safely. My Aunt Mildred was a WWII hero in her own right
and paid the ultimate price-beheaded by guillotine per Hitler's direct order.

"The Greatest Generation" My dad was an Army cook. He met Ma at a USO dance outside Boston before being shipped out to England then Iceland. Their correspondence courtship was delayed by military review of all letters. When he out processed my mom was working as a nurse at a military clinic on Camp Drum (Now Ft Drum) they married in Lake Placid. My Uncle served in Italy.
Every adult male in our neighbor was a veteran of either the war in Europe or the war in the Pacific. "We stand on the shoulders of Giants".
