Transmission identification, Help

I have had this transmission in my shop for decades; just waiting for the same year and make of motorcycle to come trough the door, so I could match the trans up. That mystery motorcycle, has not ever shown up at my shop; and I am running out of decades to wait.

It is close to a Harley WLA; but definitely, not the same. Maybe something older ?

Anybody recognize the model and year? Probably a smaller bike, looking at the 2 stud mounting and smaller teeth for the primary chain. But I don't know.
