Earliest Scout Engines
The prototype Indian Scout was numbered 50R000 according to "Indian News," which in 1926 bragged that this first Scout engine was still being used on a factory sidecar rig with over 88,000 miles.
A photograph of motor number 50R001 is on file in the collection of the former British magazine "The Motor Cycle," and this photo is shown in my "Indian Scout Motorcycles." The Scout with motor 50R001 may have been displayed at the London show, or it may be that only the photograph crossed the Atlantic. We can be certain that one or more of the new Scouts were shown at the late-1919 London show because in that era Indian sold lots of motorcycles in Britain.
