Some interesting points are made here. In the US during the twenties both car and motorcycle sales were basically limited to US manufacture. This was largely the result of the protectionist tariffs that passed Congress at the beginning of the decade. On the other hand, remember that 50% of US motorcycle production was exported each year. Also, although the cost of new cars declined, more and more used cars were available at an even lower cost; they were major challenger to motorcycles.
