  • Harley Seat Post Springs

    I have lost the contact info for the AMCA member that sells the seat post spring kits. I see him in Oley every yr. I set my 46FL on the ground yesterday and bottomed the seat out when I sat on it for the first time. I need heavier springs. I would much appreciate it if someone could help with a phone# or e-mail address. Thanks, Kyle

        Can't you put a block spacer in under your springs to perfectly match the tension required to balance your body weight- three quarters from the top of the pogo extension. Where is the balance point. Is that personal preference?

          The springs I put in were NOS standard duty. I weigh in at 280 lbs. It is very comfy with the buddy seat and helper springs, but they are too weak with just the solo, which I am going to use during break in. There is an AMCA member out there, who has done all his homework and has put together some nice spring combos from machine shop die springs. I seem to have lost his phone # and was hoping hoping someone familiar with him would be able to supply that info.

              I'm sure you can just put some spacers in to increase the tension of the NOS springs. Carl??? anyone?

              Ya ya, OK - so he's a big guy on a Harley. Is that so strange. I think one of my buddies weighs in at around 360 - 6'5". So he's got a ways to go yet.

                On a couple of my bikes I 've installed a large spring around the outside of the post that greatly helps. I call it my lardass spring. I've seen others use springs like it also, I'm not sure what the springs come from, maybe someone else knows. I run one on my Indian with a buddy seat without the buddy springs and it works fine with me and my bride on the bike. I'll get a picture of my and post it.

                    Louie, I too use the outside lardass spring what Ive done is take an old sportster shock spring,the chrome one, and cut it down depending on how much firmness I want I usually use three to four coils! looks good works GREAT!

                      Why is it that it is always some skin and bones guy picking on the jolly guys? My buddy JKE is so darn skinny he can't hold his ground in a twenty mile per hour wind without something to hang on to. When he was young and bulky, his knuckleheads were at or near stock compression and displacement. Now he is old and on some kind of a weird health kick, his motorcycles are all hotrods and he struggles to crank them up, cuz he doesn't have enough size and soup to kick them through. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have trouble with weak post springs anymore. Probably has to take most of them out just to get the seat to move on the big bumps.

                        I use a outer valve spring from a knucklehead and crank up the tension on the seat post for good results. Somtimes you get surprised though like out in the middle of Montana last summer I got about 8 inches of air when I didn't notice a frost heave. My buddy Ricky was right behind me and it impressed him, but did not feel good to my sore back. Why must us old fat men ride these old rigid frame motorcycles, cause it is a blast and we can. Come join the fun and live a little.

                            I got my NOS heavy spring set from Redfern Motorcycles in Australia. The shop now has new owners but as they had quite a few of the 3128-29A heavy spring sets they are worth a try.

                            I'm about 240 lbs and so long as I adjust the external spring set to 11 1/2 inches I never bottom out.

                              Thank You Gentlemen, for the help. I have used the outer valve spring from pre evo overhead models and it certainly helps, but it is kinda tough on surrounding parts. I am looking for good travel and smooth action. I destroyed a couple of vertabrae in a bad crash yrs ago and I want to be as kind as I can be to my aching back, so I can keep riding for a long time.
