While out riding yesterday I came across these antique riders. The Backroad Express Riders. Their ride of choice is 1982/83 Honda Urban Express. 50cc. Only years sold in USA. Formed the club in 1995. A lot of members have passed since then. Current membership is about 25 including wives and friends. Highest was around 90 members. Oldest rider was 92. Most are in their 70's and 80's. They ride most every Tuesday. Longest trips have been 2 day 600 mile rides to Lake Superior and Door County. Ring leader is Dick Dalberg(second from rt.)who bought his first Express in 1982. Paid only $289 because the dealer couldn't give them away. He figures he easily has over 50,000 miles on this type if bike. He can't keep accurate miles as the speedometer turns over at 10,000 miles. For years I have seen these guys riding all over SW Wisconsin. Mostly heading for a slice of pie. Dalberg says they are having problems getting parts. Especially mufflers and drive belts.
I'm still riding in my 70's. I just hope I'm still riding in my 80's much less in my 90's. I don't mind riding slow speeds but these guys are on a different level. I'll most likely end up joining these guys someday if they will have me. lol
