On p.58 and 60 of the new (Spring '06) issue of the club mag there is a picture of a special motor stuck in what looks like an early frame. Says it belongs to Dave Kafton and is described as: "a homemade special he found called the PDQ Special which featured an engine with aircraft engine cylinders modified to fit a Harley bottom end. It sported Amal carbs 2, a hand-hacked frame, and a little gas tank made from a '39 Hudson head-light housing."
Anyone know the background on this motor and does Dave Kafton ever post here?
Reason I ask is because back when I was doing some research on 1920-30s OHV hillclimbers I ran across some very obscure references to 80" OHV home-brews (specials) in California that I could never figure what heads and cylinders they were using. Then they dropped out of sight (outlawed?) also PDQ.
This baby may provide a clue, altho it looks like a 45 bottom on it.
What is this thing? Is it authentic? That is, an actual old hillclimb motor or somebody's later garage project?
