  • Teak Red

I am restoring a 1934 Harley Davidson VL. I am looking for the formula for the paint, teak red. Thank you, Doc Burch

Doc, Type in...'Pierce' at the above right 'Advanced Search'. There are many members comments in regard to your dilemma on Paint & Painting. Good Luck.

My UK painter matched a nos paint sample of Teak Red to ICI Spectrum code ME21B, it's in my VL restoration book. You may be able to cross-reference this to a modern US paint code.

I believe that H-D used the same *Paint Code--(ICI Spectrum code ME21B) for the 40's 'Flight Red' Also.

Yes, some of the civilian VL colours from the 1930s were re-badged for wartime, and you can tell from the 1934-36 paint part numbers used for the later incarnations. Skyway Blue, Clipper Blue and Squadron Gray should be among them.

H-D would often change the name but the part number remained the same. See the paint chart on pages 803-806 in Palmer's Second Edition.
