  • Jd mrsp

I have applied for a bonded title for my 29 JD.
It has come back as having a MRSP of over $8,000. This is obviously wrong.
If I can supply something that has the MRSP for a 29 JD, the DMV will reassess the value.

Can anybody help me here with something to confirm what the original MRSP was. I believe it was around $340, depending on accessories.

    Thank you,
    Mick

I have a 26 and a 30 dealer order forms I can scan for you if it helps. Don't have a 29 though.

      Thanks Rubone.
If I don't have the correct year, the DMV will probably be more confused. They have already valued my 29 JD to cost more than my 1989 FLT.

If i cannot find the correct year, I will take you up on your offer.
      Thanks,
      Mick

fwiw, the amca library shows a '29 advertising brochure with price of machine. although an advertising brochure might not be as authoritative as a dealer order form. none the less at least the advertising brochure is a piece of factory literature.

          Steve,
I have been through the library and found everything except exactly what I need.
The 29 JD price is for a police model with a "single unit lighting"
          Probably close enough.
          Thanks

Can you use pricing from 'The Legend Begins'? Published by HD in '93. Page 39 has an order blank stating $320 for a '29 JD-Solo Twin Elec.

                Bob,
That looks like exactly what I need.
I purchased this book and will scan the page I need. It should be clear enough for the DMV to understand.
                Cheers

When your DMV writes a $320.00 value. How much will you be able to insure it for? Your running into the taxman . Every state wants their coin.

My insurer doesn't care one bit what valuation on the title says, they go by agreed value based on current prices and descriptions/photos of what they are insuring. Unless something is dramatically out of line they are fine as long as they get the adjusted premium for their liability.

Nevada DMV want 150% of the MRSP to issue a bonded title.
When it comes time to register it, I will have to pay tax as i haven't paid tax in any state.
I don't know what this amount will be. I expect it will be a lot more than I want to pay.
Then i will also need insurance. This should be in the low hundreds, I hope.

My antique mc insurer is the same as Robbie said, original price means nothing, it is about what it is worth today in the current condition it is in at an agreed price. Yes, low hundreds $ with my experience.

The bond is generally pretty affordable. however for the tax if you do not have a record of what you paid for it they will base it on current Blue Book, at least that seams to be the norm. In NM the tax is at a rate of about 2% on used vehicles. It isn't the same as sales tax so it should be within reason. Could cost about $500-600 depending on your state. Also, if they think what you show is too low they can again defer to the Blue Book, so telling them it was a $50 barn find probably won't work!

In Wisconsin I got a bonded title on my 1925 JD and the total price of tax, bond, title and registration was less than $600. They appraised the bike at $26,000. I had before and after pictures and receipts that I spent on it.

Not long ago I paid $1000 tax to register a 1989 FLT I had just finished building. I think I valued that at about $10K to register it.
The bond for that one was $250, on a $12000 value.
The JD is complete and running, but not restored yet. I should register it before I restore it.
