Linkert model question

    Just noticed this Linkert M Model info posted March 2025 by linkertcarbs.com. The list shows M9 is for the 1935 Indian Pony. It's been awhile since the original post, but I would still like to see the M9 stamp.

      I think the Linkert M2 is later 1933/first 1934. The VLs were still using the pot metal Scheblers after the bronze ones in 1930. I would say DLX 80 for later 1930, DLX 85 for 1931, DLX 88 for 1932 and DLX 92 for early 1933. Then the 1934s took the M21.

        What's that got to do with a Linkert on a Pony?

        (A DLX98 sounds a little familiar, but but I haven't found one logged..)

        My guess is that AMCA16's question is whether it was a "Beck" stamping for a replacement, or not, as we know ITW was forensically sorting these things out as best possible.

        Just hope AMCA16 doesn't intend to tattoo one! Because then we may never know.

          Tom, I was also wondering about the relevance of Steve's last reply,

          Anyway I was recently researching replacement Linkerts for Indian Scheblers and found this old post, though alot of good replies/info, I didnt notice a answer to the OP regarding the M9 intended application. I had just checked out ITW site and thought I would attach the info showing the M9, thinking it may help for future searchers.

          Absolutely no tatto intensions. I inquired about the M9 stamp pic to compare it to another pre-war 1". I too am curious about the "M" and serifs.

          I'll post a pic after I make the last payment on the carb.

            I finally found an M9 reference, Mike!

            I never encountered an M9 nor M10; but although most Beck stamps I recorded had serif'd Ms, there were certainly exceptions, as I have M6s with either straight legs or serifs.

            It must be noted that L&L was known to re-stamp their own carbs for the Beck market, as I had an M8SA where 441 was faintly visible, and probably a result of their exchange program:

              Hi Tom, on my 1930 Henderson I have an M 9 with an adapter plate. No indian stamp or Beck stamp. I had an M 10 that was stamped M 10 B 4. Also no indian or Beck stamps. This carb was on a 1933 Indian four. I took it off and put the correct Schebler on it.

                I've never seen a carb with a Beck cartouche, Dave,..

                Its commonly accepted that the INDIAN stamped replacements were marketed by Beck.

                A question remains as to when this began, as M6s exist both with and without the INDIAN.

                But since they are all disqualified as 'incorrect' for AMCA judging, we may never know.

                  Not disqualified Tom, they just didn't leave the factory that way, which is our touchstone for AMCA judging. If you look at our Judging Handbook you'll see Carburetor, Intake and Air Cleaner is four-point category number 5, and carburetor has a maximum two point deduction. Our American bike judges will know that many 1930s bikes originally fitted with pot metal Scheblers were later retrofitted with Linkerts and may make a lesser points deduction. Our British bike judges do not seem so concerned with carburetor serial number details, and are more relaxed about later Amal concentrics being fitted. I'm happy to be corrected on this observation.

                    So, some are forgiven more than others, Steve?

                    Any ol' Linkert will do, or must the owner prove his model was marketed as the specific replacement to shave a deduction point?
