H.P. & Ft Pounds of Torque on 1919 and Earlier Engines

I was wondering what kind of H.P. & Torque the motorcycle engines made up through
about 1919. I just read an article yesterday that stated that the Ford Model T had
between 20 and 22 H.P. and 83 Ft Lbs of torque! Plus it could run well on pure ethanol
that farmers made right on their spreads. Can these early motorcycle engines burn any
variety of fuels?

Well the Model T engine is about 2900 cc or 177 ci, and while it has 83 ft-pd torque at 900 rpm and 14 hp you are only going 22 mph. 1500 rpm is about it and the torque is about 70 and you are going 38 mph on 20 hp.

A 1913 DeLuxe 9 hp with Spacke 70 ci (1150cc) v-twin gives 13 hp at 2400 rpm and still 14 ft-pd (37 ft-pd at 1000 rpm). A 5 hp single Spacke engine gave 6.6 hp at 2400 rpm and 14 ft=pd torque with 18 ft-pd at 1000 rpm.

A 13 Pope model L 1000 cc ohv twin (61 ci) gave 13.9 hp at the rear wheel and 53 mph and 9.3 hp at 65 mph.

Looking at some slightly later motorcycle engines that I have figures for:

An 1100 cc JAPrestwich 60 degree v-twin sv engine makes 32 hp at 4000 rpm with 42 ft-pd torque at that rpm but 44 ft-pd at 2000 rpm
A 1000cc JAPrestwich 50 degree ohv racing v-twin makes 60 hp and 69 ft-pd torque at 4500 rpm and 74 hp and 65 ft-pd torque at 6000 rpm
