The second picture is of a surplus storage dump of used British and Canadian WW2 military motorcycles. In the front is a Matchless G3/L, easily identified by its telescopic front forks. Immediately to the left of the Matchless is a Canadian Army Norton 16H with the Canadian Maple Leaf on the tank. There are some others with this identifying Maple Leaf. In the next row back from the camera are some bikes with front fender numbers which indicate that they were used by either 1st or 2nd TAF (Tactical Air Force) in the advance across France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany after the June, 1944 D-Day landings.

Haha, the prototype probably gassed the test dummy! Then they modified it after, as usual!

Diverting the exhaust was for the ears, not the nose.
After all, it looks like JAP on the motor.

Exhaust wasn't the issue. Finding something to climb that made sense was.

From a sensible arguing point, i disagree T. Cotten:
The JAP's were as loud an engine as any other motor of the day, hence manually rider activated silencers. Here's a couple video examples. Probable reason for the initial prototype pictures minus an exhaust, was due to the simple fact that they didn't throw the extra money into the first three Prototypes, because they didn't aquire a contract yet, to build production for the French Military.
