anyone ever heard of a Patria Four? appears to be a well designed machine.

- Made in Spain

- Only one in existence of approx. 12 made

- 4 cylinder 'in line' 1263cc engine

The Patria sure looks like a Henderson. I wonder who copied who.

A German friend of mine is familiar with the Patina brand. Henderson, and ACE were the inspiration. Other than the intake manifold, the motor looks like it came right out of Chicago.

I'll have to ask my friend if the motor is indeed Chicago Henderson. I would have to believe it is considering the low production numbers, and the amount of resources a company would have to spend, just to make a copy of something that is already being made. You can sure see the Henderson influences in the frame, and the Ace front fork and gas tank with the built in tool box. I really have to wonder why the Patina used the Henderson Deluxe motor, with the early Detroit style intake manifold and Schebler carburetor. Seems like a backward move to me.

The auction web-link says the Patria was made in Spain. Tommo, nice work jogging Eric's awareness for what patina isn't.

This is how legends begin I have no idea if there ever was a 'Patina' manufactured; I'm going by what my friend said. It could very well be a custom motorcycle that was built from wrecked Henderson, and ACE parts. There also could have been 12 Patinas built from purchased parts. Spain was famous for it's one-off sports cars, so a motorcycle wouldn't have been much of a challenge. Who knows? Like they say; it's not the steak, it's the sizzle

The Patria Company in Germany had nothing to do with Patria Spain. Different Companies.

It would be of interest to find out, if the spanish Patria 4-Cylinder was build under licence of Henderson or just copied.

From what i found, Patria Spain had built Motorcycles bewteen 1922 and 1936. They used engines of JAP, Villiers and obviously Henderson to put it into the own frames. This was common in Europe, mainly Germany at that time. A lot of small Producers working this way. They were called "Konfektionär" (Fitters ?) BTW Brough Superior was also nothing more than a fitter. Although a good one ;-)
