  • Wauseon meet

So are members aloud to be there on the 20th? I have never had an issue on being there on Thurs, but was told this year was very different.

Thursday, tomorrow, is the only time I can go because my girlfriend is having surgery on Friday.

Also, can they look me up because I misplaced my card.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

I am sadly not going to make it this year. I got very sick last night because of leg pain and still feel very bad this morning. It is very upsetting because I look forward to this meet every year.

On the other hand, I believe everything happens for a reason. We are suppose to get torrential rains, with hail, about the time we will be driving home.

Just returned from Wauseon back to the left coast last night. Had a great time and was my first time. I tried to do it all and think I did, saw the races on Friday night, stands were jammed. Loved seeing Jay Springsteen and George Roeder Jr race like a million dollars were on the line. Went to the Wall of Death, twice. Swap meet was killer and did do the dinner banquet Saturday. My favorite food walking around was the pork chop on a stick, and home made ice cream. Later talked to George Roeder Jr at the swap meet. He was great and willing to talk as long as you wanted.
#7558 Take me on and you take on the whole trailer park!

A BIG FAT BUCKEYE THANK YOU, to all that attended the 35th Wauseon National meet. I think a great time was had by all. The only real "problem" we have is early arrivals. Our contract with the Fairgrounds and Insurance coverage runs Thursday through Sunday. When my wife and I arrived on Tuesday around noon, to prepair for Wednesday set up and field layout, there were several vendors on site with tents up and merchendise out on tables as well as several campers. On Wednesday there was a flood of campers and vendors entering the grounds. These early arrivals are straining our volunteer base to the breaking point. So, for 2018 the only people that will be admitted before 8 am Thursday will be staff members with a staff pass. Anyone on the grounds before Thursday at 8am will be asked to vacate the grounds. I know this will be unpopular with some, but if we keep allowing early arrivals to continue it will kill the meet. Thank you for your understanding.

Fred, just so I understand correctly. The meet doesn't officially open until Friday, but we (non vending public) can still show up Thursday after 8am and walk in, correct? Thanks.

I also thank Mr. Davis and all those who volunteer to make this a great event ! And I understand and appreciate his very valid points.

I began attending in 1994 and no one was allowed to enter until Thursday at 5PM, this created huge lines waiting in the parking lot.
With everyone entering at the same time the set up process was difficult at best.

Today you have twice as many spaces and vehicles, the spaces are smaller and many of the vehicles are larger.

Trying to park a camper or motorhome during this mass influx of vehicles will be a challenge.
I expect those with 30 foot trailers and/or diesel pusher motorhomes will find it impossible.

Big Lake Bob, though it will be discouraged, anyone may park outside the fence and walk through the man gate. No vehicles wothout a vendor pass will be admitted.
Hennigan62, Yes the Wauseon National is held on the third full weekend of July
eight, vendors and campers will enter through seperate gates. Yes it is true that we have many more vendors and campers that ever before, it is also true that we are going to kill this meet if we continue to have people entering the field on Monday and expecting the meet to be in full operation. When people arrive three days ahead of time and bitch me out for not having a hamburger stand open, it is time for a change. As for the vending spaces, they have been the same size for the twenty or so years that I have been involved in the laying out of spaces. The AMCA Policies & Procedures Manual suggest vending spaces be 450 sq. ft., all spaces at Wauseon are 500+ sq. ft.
                            Best regards, Fred

                              Fred,

Thanks for all that you and all of the other volunteers do to make this a spectacular meet. The racing was especially good this year with exciting finishes. Too bad you missed it celebrating your 19th birthday! All the P&P's you have are necessary to pull this off successfully. Growing pains are tough for everybody but changes are required as it grows. Unless and until you have run one of these events and of this size I thinks folks need to respect the decisions made which try to make it the great event it has become.
