That prior response was sorta dismissive if you really aren't that concerned about the outcome which I'm reckon'n you are if you bothered to post that request here. Fasteners and plated parts make the machine in a restoration (he says after riding one painted with 5 cans of Krylon and no plating in Colorado last week, go figure) So, the ideal situation is you want a m/c enthusiast doing mill spec quality work which only those with contracts with primarily the navy can ensure as they can afford to keep their tanks exchanged, ability to do outsized pieces (strung rather than tumbled) and ensure consistent quality. Billmark at the link below has never failed to deliver. Don't fall for rural FBO's offering plating to keep crop duster's props legal on hour. For best quality outcome I'd crate and ship my parts as convincingly clean as possible, it's the prep tank for filthy parts provided by lazy/uncaring owners that results in that stainless etched looking surface returned in their pile rather than the almost magical sheen of the original finish.

Do you believe that all 'original' cadmium plating was identical?
Since its only 'original' once, any modern plating is a matter of personal taste.
Do you tear down every few years to renew the "almost magical sheen"?

Me, and Indianut have used Sun-Glo plating in St. Pete. We literally brought 5 gal. buckets of H-D, and Indian parts to them. They were very clear about the parts having to be clean, greaseless, and rust free. They are a high volume industrial plater and will not deal with dirty, oily parts. Their price was very reasonable. This was a few years ago, so you should check to see if they will do it.

i had these friendly folks do cadmium plating for my 27JD. http://coloradoplating.com/
they do motorcycle work and appreciate old machinery. their work is primarily aircraft, they said the fed gov't requires cad plated propellers.
in my case, their work was excellent and uniform finish. not quite sure how to describe the color, it is a sort of in between a silver and aluminum and sort of white-ish, hard to describe. not satin and not flat. i would say much closer to flat than satin.

i sent them clean parts. i always thoroughly clean and prep my parts before i send to any plater.

Sun-glo did an excellent job of show cad for a car restoration my son is doing in GA. Clean clean clean is the watch words...be specific as to Mil Spec #1 Cad, or Gold cad etc. Do a little asking or provide excellent sample finish part if you can, they were quite helpful.
