A friend has this timing cover in a pile of parts. He is thinking it is Indian but thought we'd double check,

I'll take a stab at it. Indian cam cover, cast iron oil pump. Thinking '46-'47.

Probably! But the casting number doesn't help me, what does the top of the cam cover look like?
