Mystery Belt Drive 2 speed Gearbox Guts, BRITISH???

Can anyone ID this? Looks like an early two speed transmission of sorts. The small V belt makes me think that it may be early British.
What are your thoughts?

FYI: I've got a positive ID on this part. It is the internals of a 1914 Excelsior Two Speed Transmission.
I was flipping through a 1914 Excelsior sales catalog and a cutaway view caught my eye. Sure enough, there it was.
