Does anyone know what has happened to Colin Tawney at Conan's Classics? E-mail is returned and the phone has been disconnected.

I only can tell you that there are postings on several different sites complaining about being ripped off or dis-satisfied with Colin and not being able to reach him. Everything from not receiving parts paid for, to not getting back parts sent for service. This has been going on for at least 2 years, so I am always surprised to see his website still up. I myself paid for some cad plating and had to basically beg to get it back, and then was so disgusted with the results I had to do it over at a local shop. He never responded or replied to my requests to talk about it.

      Hello,
Colin has been very helpful to me over the years. Although I had a couple of Ebay auctions fall through with him, no money exchanged hands so no problem. It was just before he "disappeared". I believe he has had some personal problems to work out. I hope he gets back on track. I wish him well.

I wish him well also, as this isn't an easy business to survive in.

We need to identify who his his plater was, however, as they are definitely to be avoided. Especially for nickel.

I too wish Colin well, and yes this is a hard business to be in.However, I myself restore seats and saddlebags and if I treated my customers like he does I would not last another minute!! I was simply trying to do him a favor by loaning some 5 hole bag mounting plates so he could reproduce them and they were never returned. That is no way to operate a business!!!!

            Greetings all
Colin was always very helpful a couple of years ago with parts for me. I know he and his wife split up, but I got from his voice that he wasn't really OK with it. Cut him some slack, he make amends for whatever he's done to some of you. Emotions sometimes makes us do things we wouldn't otherwise do...
            Cheers,
            Bear

I have already made known my feelings about him else where and I will stick to them. We have a Man down fella's. When he was up he did us all right. I don't have any intentions of kicking him now. If some of us have never seen the worst of life, tear at our very being, then I think it is high time many of us do. Maybe then an understanding of what it is like to wear another's shoes will be clearer!! Paps

Reading all this has made me think a little more than I usually do, I think it is wrong to kick a person when they are down, but I also dont see anything wrong with people pointing out that they were WRONGED by a person either!
We are all human and make mistakes from time to time, but two lessons I learned early on from my parents were this, Be HONEST with people and pay your BILLS! the rest will work it self out holds true today as ever it did. I feel its wrong to blame whats going on in your life for not doing what you say you will, people trust you to do that,if you dont then you have NO ONE but YOURSELF to BLAME ! Half our problems today could and would be solved if EVERYONE was RESPONSIBLE for thier actions! And owned them!REMEMBER ITS NEVER WRONG TO DO THE RIGHT THING!!
I hope nobody takes this the wrong way and it is only an oservation of a ageing old man!

I agree with you 100% INLINE4NUT. But when the chips are down, bills don't get paid on time. The downed chips usually are the result of financial failures. Additional problems in life add to this situation making it more difficult to rebound from the hole that was created. I've been on the bottom rung of the ladder a few times over my life span so far but folks stood by with support and patience while I gradually climbed that ladder again one rung at a time. Knowing a man's heart to be sincere and honest, I owe this in return. Knowing a man's heart not to be sincere and honest, is a totally different story. A dollar doesn't pay 3 dollars worth of accumulated debt. Paps

                    Paps,
I too have been there and thank the good LORD,people believed in me and let me get back on my feet and righted myself! If someone is trying thats one thing and if you dont have the cash ,dont hide, just tell it the way it is and at least make the effort but some people forget and when they are down dont even ask for a little time to make things rite...thats wrong in my book!Ive been on the tight budget before it isnt nice but at least you can hold your head high. I must say your RIGHT 110% dont kick a man when he is down!

If you're down for one thing or another, it doesn't give you permission to rip people off. That's weak. I'm not kick'in a man while he's down if I'm telling the truth.

Even when your all screwed up over a divorce, dopes that mean you cash a check and don't send a part? Does it mean the plating doesn't even have to be done when you send the parts back?

Imagine- I sent every fastener, brake pedal, oil lines, head cup, brake, clutch, etc. Hundreds of the small hardeware that gets cad plated. I stripped, blasted, wheeled every one of them first. I was fighting to get them back at all. It would have been a nightmare if I had to replace everything.

If you're too f'ed up to do it, then don't do it till your right. Refuse my money, don't cash my check.

If you saw how many sites had stuff on Colin, how many guys had a story, you would realize something fishy was going on.

How about him responding here and tell his side of the story?

                      Dan
