  • Yahoo Groups

As some may have noticed, Yahoo is up for sale.

There s a discussion going on on the Harrison lathe Yahoo group (which I am a member of) that is saying that Yahoo is probably going to be broken up into profit making elements and loss making ones and the loss making ones will be shut down. The Yahoo groups are part of the loss making elements of Yahoo and will, apparently, close.

There is a Harley J & JD group and I guess some other motorcycle related ones so beware that they may be shut down.

I do believe that there is some software that can archive a group so if there is information on one that people on here want to keep for reference you may want to consider looking into it.

Wow, that's crazy. Sounds like the bean counters got involved! I am still apart of the Yahoo VL group; but, had to turn off all the email notifications since this group was hacked by pornography spammers. One message out of 20 was about VLs!

I stopped using Yahoo Groups a few years ago when they changed how it worked. I quickly gave up trying to find things in a group, or discovered you couldn't save a picture. It was great in it's day but had become a useless slug. I have to wonder if it was sabotaged by some Yahoo executive who wanted to tank it, and then buy it up at junk bond prices. I know there were many charitable organizations, and support groups that relied on Yahoo Groups to keep their members informed; only to have the rug pulled out from under them by that stupid change.

John, can you link the software that will save a group? I was a member of the J, JD Group, and the Excelsior Group and there was fantastic information on those groups which never showed up here, or on other forums.

I didn't realize the VL Group was gone to porn, maybe that where some of my spam is originating. I DIS-like how Yahoo has inserted advertising in my email: A lightning fast message from Yahoo Mail. Get it now

          Re Yahoo Groups

I agree that it is not a nice user interface. However I also have found some information on the couple of groups that I am in that I couldn’t find elsewhere.

Please note that this is, as far as I am aware, not for certain but it is a possibility/probability.

No problem Eric. I have taken this from someone on the Harrison Group but I have no idea if it is any good or not. It has a 30 day free trial and then a one off $25 licence fee.

I repeat that I have never used this and have no idea how good or bad it is and I have no connection to the company.

The free 30 day trial version is here:

I don't go near yahoo after the hackers started harassing me with their crimes and cons. They even started calling my cell phone; I googled the phone number and there were hundreds of complaints from those who have been abused by these hackers. Yahoo has been hacked more than once, and all I can say is, "Never again yahoo"!
