Evapo-Rust??

I’m helping a friend with her ’90 FXRS (replaced the base gaskets) and noticed the fuel tank has quite a bit of rust. When I drained the tank and removed it from the scoot, I could hear the loose rust sloshing around. The visual inspect was pretty ugly. Has anyone ever used Evapo-Rust or any other DIY, eco-friendly rust remover with good success and without paint damage (this tank is OP)? I have in the past used kerosene & fish tank gravel or ball bearing and shook and shook and shook my split tanks. With the FXR’ 1-piece tank, I’m not sure I can get all the media out. Has anyone used radiator shop(s) to flush tanks?

I have used evapo-rust with good results. I don't think it will hurt the paint, but I would avoid leaving it on painted surfaces just in case.
