1953 Panhead

Hello,

I came across a one owner 1953 panhead in what I believe to be all original condition. The bike is currently burried in a garage, so I have not had the opportunity to really inspect.

One thing I immediatedly noticed, which I have not seen or read about before...The bike has both Hand Clutch and rocker Foot Clutch installed (Tank shift). I know the Moco started offering Hand Clutch/Foot Shift as option in 52', but I have never seen a foot clutch/tank shift, with the hand clutch also set up.

Has anyone seen this before? If so, are you able to direct me to a source that confirms why the MOCO or rider would have set up this way?

Don't mistake the hand lever on the left bar as a clutch. That is the location of the front brake lever on hand shift bikes.

I have a 1953 FLE that I've been working on (slowly) for the past several years. From the little I could see from the photos, that bike appears to be very 'unmolested' and I would love to see some detailed pictures when you get it uncovered.

Thanks for the comment. I am still working with the original owner's family in securing the bike (part of an estate). As soon as I have the bike in my possession, I will post more detailed photos.

Good luck with your 53' project. You do the same when you get closer to completion.

Will do Even, ,but please know that its a long-term ordeal - I have two other bikes to complete first. But at least I've finished the motor, transmission and front end.
