My choice has been hi-viz (mine's an Icon Patrol... good jacket). I'm pretty sure there's been more than a couple instances where that jacket got me seen by a car looking to pull out in front of or across me. My wife says it makes me look bigger!

I have always been a fan of Aero. They are tailor made and you can get them in horsehide.

i'm cheap all mine come from yard sales for $15-25. the yellow is nice but it wont work here. i wife drives a 40 foot yellow bus and people hit her every other month. although people never say they did not see her.

Sometimes pawn shops have a good selection. I always wanted a Langlitz though.

I prefer the finish leather look of the earlier jackets ----- NOT the newer naked leather--- the way most of the jackets are made these days, I think for overall $$$$ and quality the vintage Schott jackets are very hard to beat.

I just sold 2 H-D cycle champs from 60's 70's, and picked up a Schott horsehide , takes awhile to break in but well worth it.

I really like my First Gear mesh jacket for warm weather riding and the liner is warm and weatherproof. I'd say it's probably good down into the fifties for temperature. I'm not certain because I like to wear my bad-ass Hein-Gericke if it's below 80. :-)

You might tell us what kind of gear you want. I tend to focus on safety over style so textile with armor seems like my best protection for the money. Lots of folks wouldn't be caught dead in that silly looking stuff (not a criticism, I spend plenty of time sweating in my Hein-Gericke because it looks cool. )

Thanks everyone for the ideas I think I am going to look for a Textile jacket maybe in a bright color safety is important if it doesn't look so good. If it saves you just once it was worth it.
