  • A Quick KJ Question Please?

    Dear All;

    First... I apologize for posting this question in "Parking Lot Chatter", but it does get the most views and participation. Postings in American:Other at times take a month to get an answer. I need the following for my 1929 Excelsior Henderson KJ to get it back on the road at this time. I had to remove the rear jug to deal with rust on an open intake valve and seat, plus deal with a badly worn out valve guide. The freshly restored machine (September 78) has sat in a museum since resto with a valve open to atmosphere moisture. (Plus the restoration shop obviously got lazy and left the rear jug valve guide the way it was for unknown reason. All others are like new.)

    Here is my list:
    1) Cylinder base gasket(s) (Do not care how many I have to buy)
    2) Intake gaskets
    3) Rings - 2.717 inch x 1/8th thick (My ring lands are .131 deep.) Piston is like new..Can use the rings I have..But another set is good measure perhaps.

    I tried ordering from O4 Motors, (ie: Rob Olsen Motors, Canada) and after two very nice inquires, I only got emails back about "how busy he was" and "how small his shop was" and "how he did not have time". It took longer to type and send me two emails than it would have taken to drop some gaskets in an envelope! (What he did not know is that he has some great looking saddle bags that were going to be ordered next. OOPS!)

    I am not venting here, nor attacking Mr. Olsens personal business decision on only one day...Maybe his dog died? I'm just a bit frustrated and want one of my lifts back and want to get this KJ back on the road where it belongs Any direction would be appreciated.

    Thank You Very Much;

                Well Since Steve didn't have all the info when he made the original post and after a nice telephone conversation to clear up the misunderstanding, I had originally (unknown at the time to him) passed on the information to his mechanic as I wasn't able to assist him at the time,

                Steve is such a stand up guy and made a public apology to myself which I greatly appreciate

                I would like to note however that the inquiry did not come from Steve originally and I did respond by directing his mechanic to Hastings for rings and Bill Klein for the bits of gaskets he required. I was happy to direct his mechanic even though I wasn't able to help at the time.

                I have a 1200 sq ft full automotive machine shop building 4 cylinder engines for over 30 years

                I am just happy Steve was able to get the help he needed even though I wasn't able to help him at the time as we did have a very sick Boxer we were nursing back to health.
