Proper fastener for antique license plate to bracket

What is the proper fastener to use on a 1920's era license plate to bracket? Screw or bolt?

My opinion would be a 1/4" x 20 straight slot round head screw, flat washer, flat washer, and nut (probably a square nut). I don't believe motorcycle companies supplied the license plate hardware. It's also possible that you got the hardware with your license plate. A license plate collector could problably tell you more about this than anyone else. . . . Now you've got me curious

I was going to respond... "Velcro."

But, like you, Eric, I am now curious!

      Cheers,

And I was going to say baling wire. I like to use truss head straight slot screws but maybe there's someone who really know what's right.

Now I'm curious too. Another thing I have to start scrutinizing in pictures.

My first thought was a slotted screw, like Eric suggested, but on a little consideration I might look for a pan head screw which is flat, rather than domed. (JUst googled truss head, it's a little flatter than I was thinking.)

I'm using some fairly accurate, and very nice reproduction GlowBrite glass reflectors on my '47.
