  • Harley's LR-64 Rocket Engine

I thought it was only fair to give Harley equal coverage in the field of aviation. Sure Indian built the Aero Motor, but Harley built an actual rocket.

Believe that a variant or derivation of this drone was the basis for the "Buffalo Hunter" program that flew a lot of unmanned photo flights over North Vietnam and, ultimately, identified the Son Tay prison camp.

Never knew the motors came from Harley! Fascinating link and very cool! Thanks for posting!

    Cheers,

Excelsior also built a horizontally opposed 2 cyl engine in WW1 that was used to power the penguin trainers.

        Number one,
Those were not H-Ds contract and they had nothing to do with designing them. They just took over the production when they moved to York where they were already in production. Your info is backwards..
        Number two
H-D built Golf carts long before they had any connection to AMF.
While it is great that you are posting all these tidbits, it really would be best if you actually used correct information. There are enough BS myths about H-d already, no need to create more.

Thanks for the correction, that's why I post here. Best collection of motorcycle history buffs available. So technically the rockets built in the 90's were built by Harley, but the previous ones built in the 60's would have been AMF?

Corrected text based on your comments. Removed the bit about the golf carts...

          Thanks!
