    Manifold

I have a cast iron 4 bolt Linkert manifold that is just short of 3 1/4" wide that is drilled and tapped for a slotted plug. It has the raised casting number 428 401. Is this original? Or somebody's home modification?

    VPH-D!

It was much too popular of a booger, on Indians as well as H-Ds. Perhaps it was for squirting starting fuel, which indicates problems may extend beyond the manifold.

They nearly always leak under a bubble-test, and I encourage you to leave no stone unturned.

Most of those plugs replaced an aftermarket pop off valve that went bad.
