Back in the early 80`s there was a magazine that had a article called "The Collectors" It featured several people who collected antique motorcycles. Some were stored in an old school, some were stored in an old cement factory. Although I remember the story I cannot remember the name or date of the magazine. If anyone remembers please let me know. I would like to find a copy. Thank you. Mark.

Hi Diesel, I don`t think it was a Smithsonian magazine. I recall that the center picture showed one of the collectors standing on a Ariel Square 4 that was in the middle of several old Indians, Harleys and several other bikes. The article mentioned that the collector who lives in the school house hates to pay taxes and probable does`nt.
It is amazing that I can remeber the article but not the magazine name or date.
Thank you,

Try Motorcyclist, September 1978. You can even order an old copy from: http://www.dadsvintageads.com

Thanks for remembering Rub, but Bill and I put those features together for AM, and that's not the article he's talking about. I remember "The Collectors," and if I recall correctly, the guy with the multi-story former factory was--and is, Beno Rodi.--Greg Harrison

Does this look familiar?...here is the cement factory you speak of, and that is Al Scheirer on top of the pile. I never saw the magazine ( I have heard of it) but I have been to this cement factory and have some pics of Al's vast collection. I think Harry Buck was in the mag also.

By the way Al lost everything because he did not pay his taxes...I have a 1939 WLD that came out of this cement factory.
That's my '39 WLD laying to the right of the wheelless Chief. This pic was taken at the cement factory near Allentown PA in 1968.
