North Texas AMCA Chapter or?

A few weeks ago 8 AMCA members had a supper meeting in Grapevine,Texas to discuss if there was enough intrest in forming a regional or local chapter or help try to expand the Cherokee Chapter in the Texas area. I have discussed this with Richard Spagnolli and Fred Davis along with other Texas AMCA members, and we would like to hear from people who might be intrested. The distance between AMCA members is great but we could be involved in existing road runs, or swapmeets in diferent parts of the state. We plan to meet with the Cherokee Chapter on Dec. 2, at their Christmas Dinner at Walburg, Texas to discuss our options with them. Input from other area AMCA members is requested. Shelby

Go for it Shelby. I had a great time on the hill country road run a couple of years ago, and always thought Texas was too big for just one AMCA Chapter. It only takes eight founder members, then once you're established you'll find old bike owners coming out of the woodwork. Best of luck.

Sarge you could not have been more right, with the help of the forum the word got out. We met with the Cherokee Chapter at their ride to Walburg Texas for their Christmas dinner and meeting, a lot of old friends meeting having a great time. After some discussion and sharing of views our two groups decided to join forces behind expanding the Cherokee Chapter. I along with Greg McFarland, Dallas area, were voted in to the Board of Directors, Jon Neuman took up the task of setting up a road run, and Steve Klein, Austin area, took the Newsletter Editor position on the board. Chapter voted to have website built, and to expand membership having a presence at events through out the state. We will be setting up a booth at the swapmeet and bikeshow at Arlington Texas, December 30th, signing up new AMCA and Cherokee members. My Thanks for all the Cherokee members that went out of their way to make us welcome to their group. Shelby

It seems that it is required of me to remind a few of how the efforts of Cherokee Chapter members and local North Texas AMCA members wanted to become more active together with our hobby or intrests in old motorcycles. I attended this North Texas Meeting and the Walburg Meeting with the full knowledge of the National Board, that we were looking at a choice of starting a new chapter or joining forces with the existing Chapter in Texas.

With my Doctor allowing me to travel (drive) to these meetings, I made the effort to support both the National and local Chapter along with people I had just met for the first time, or have known for years, to try to expand the chapter across the Texas area.

The National Board and I have had our differences over internal issues within the SunShine Chapter (Me being a Member for years) over Eustis, but Richard and I have agreed to dis-agree on that one issue, But I agree with the desire of the National Board's intrest to see the Texas area to have more to offer the 80% of AMCA members that do not belong to a local chapter in the Texas area.

That means that events will have to be planned for all areas of Texas not just the poorly attended Smithfield meet.

If it is wrong for someone who has devoted all of his adult life helping keep old machines on the road, then Maybe the rules should be changed so that only people that buy and have others build their motors or help find missing parts run this club.

I repeat, I volunteered to help the majority of people that wanted their chapter grow within the AMCA, and have no financial intrest in any Texas swapmeet or event. With over 40 years vending in Texas and across the country, I do know a lot of the promoters I send my rent to, like every other vendor. If I can use my contacts to help the club plan activitys, more than glad to help.

If someone wants to say because I restore for people that can not rebuild their own motor, transmission or what ever; that I can not be part of this hobby, I have a middle finger showing my feelings as I walk away. With respect for my supporters, Shelby

Once again a National Board Member tries to rewrite history, Excuse me by rule #9 of the board of conduct All Board members unanimously, both privately and publicly, rewrites history or glosses over facts if one does, right before Eustis. It is bad enough that I am barred from advertising in the Club Magazine, policy was rewritten after my ad was pulled last minuite last year by Board "vote" on Eustis Event ad. But to minimize the efforts the North Texas Group of AMCA members had in reviving intrest in the Texas Region is not right. Refer to my last sentence in my above quote. If I get Barred from this forum I will have plenty to say on other one, Shelby, Board member of Cherokee Chapter, Charter member of Gulf Coast Chapter, and still a Member of Sunshine Chapter.
