    NORMAL — Roger C. “Sodie” Soderstrom, 95, Normal, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 13, 2012) at the McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.

    A private family inurnment will be at a later date at Roberts Cemetery, Morton. Cremation rights have been accorded. There will be no visitation.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Bloomington YMCA or Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington.

    Cremation services are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

    Sodie was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Oak Park, the son of Gus and Edna Paulsen Soderstrom. He married Shirley A. Smith on Jan. 1, 1946, in Morton. She survives.

    Also surviving is close family friend, Craig Kurth, Bloomington.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jane.

    Sodie owned operated Sodie’s Cycle Center in Bloomington. He was inducted into the American Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2006 and the U.S. Route 66 Hall of Fame in 2007. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

    I liked his house. The family lived upstairs from the dealership. Great commute! Sodie won at least one of the Peoria National Championship TT races. What a racer!
