longest ride to national meets

How do they determine who rode the farthest to get to the national meets? Do you have to have someone witness your odometer before the trip or a note from your mother or what? Thanks!

Out here we rely on the honesty system, sideways looks, and quick witted questioning. Hot header pipe interrogation would be a last resort.
